The Bent Court at Midnight

Cold, shrieking tremolo for the Bent Court, the psi lords who twist edges from beyond the fog. The Bent Court speaks in its own voice, all reach and curve and no apology. It is the sound of an edge that cuts around cover.
1. Crown of Curved Steel
Verse 1
We wear no gold. We wear the curve.
A circle of edges, a ring of reach.
The fog is our throne and the night is our hall.
Nothing straight survives our speech.
Chorus
Crown of curved steel
Set on the brow of the cold
Crown of curved steel
Bent to cut what the straight cannot hold
Verse 2
You built your walls in a perfect line.
We were never there to meet them.
Our blade goes round, our blade goes through.
We are the angle you forgot.
Chorus
Crown of curved steel
Set on the brow of the cold
Crown of curved steel
Bent to cut what the straight cannot hold
Outro
Kneel to the curve.
2. Whisper Over the Orchard
Verse 1
Frost on the branches, frost on the root
Our voices drift through the pale fruit
No lantern lit and no guard awake
We speak, and the thinking begins to break
Chorus
Whisper over the orchard
Whisper over the white
Every mind a bent branch
Every branch a blade in the night
Verse 2
You hear it not with your ears.
You hear it in the bend of the thought.
The orchard sways and forgets its name.
The orchard is ours, and the orchard is caught.
Chorus
Whisper over the orchard
Whisper over the white
Every mind a bent branch
Every branch a blade in the night
Bridge
Hush. Hush.
The tree is listening.
3. Frost on the Lantern
Verse 1
The small light shivers in its glass
The little flame forgets to pass
Cold climbs the wire, cold climbs the gold
The tempered glow goes pale and old
Chorus
Frost on the lantern
Frost on the flame
Light that was hardened
Cannot say its name
Verse 2
Your fairy tech is a candle, child.
We are the long dark around it.
It burns so bright and holds so true.
We only wait. We only bend through.
Chorus
Frost on the lantern
Frost on the flame
Light that was hardened
Cannot say its name
Outro
Out.
4. The Court Convenes
Verse 1
Chairs of ice and shadow
Voices from the fog
The edges rise, the edges lean
The council opens the long, cold book
Chorus
The Court convenes
Curve upon curve upon curve
The Court convenes
And every bent edge gets a word
Verse 2
Who will be reached? Who will be turned?
Who will stand where the angle falls?
We vote with a bend, we vote with a hum
We vote, and the front has no walls
Chorus
The Court convenes
Curve upon curve upon curve
The Court convenes
And every bent edge gets a word
Bridge
In session. In session.
Midnight is the gavel.
5. Edge of Another Angle
Verse 1
You face us square, you hold your guard.
We come from where you did not look.
Not left, not right, not up, not down.
A fifth direction, a curved hook.
Chorus
Edge of another angle
Cutting round the shield
Edge of another angle
You cannot name the field
Verse 2
Cover is a story you tell
To feel the stone is kind.
Our blade has read that story twice
And found the path behind.
Chorus
Edge of another angle
Cutting round the shield
Edge of another angle
You cannot name the field
Outro
Behind you. Behind you.
6. Mushroom Field Eclipse
Verse 1
Pale caps glow in the dark below
A thousand small moons in a row
The great shade slides across the sky
The field goes black, and the glow goes high
Chorus
Mushroom field eclipse
Dark upon the lights
Mushroom field eclipse
The Court walks in with the night
Verse 2
Spores rise up like breath of the cold
Blue and silver and slowly rolled
Under the shadow, we are home
Under the shadow, you are alone
Chorus
Mushroom field eclipse
Dark upon the lights
Mushroom field eclipse
The Court walks in with the night
Bridge
The glow is fading.
The glow is fading.
The glow is ours.
7. Hymn for a Bent Blade
Verse 1
Praise the edge that learned to curve
Praise the steel that did not break
It asked the world to meet it halfway
And the world could not stay straight
Chorus
Sing for the bent blade
Cold and bright and wide
Sing for the bent blade
It reaches where the others hide
Verse 2
It is not gentle. It is not safe.
It slips the hand that grips it tight.
A brilliant thing is a brittle thing.
We love it for the light.
Chorus
Sing for the bent blade
Cold and bright and wide
Sing for the bent blade
It reaches where the others hide
Outro
Amen to the curve.
8. The Last Straight Line
Verse 1
One line remains in the midnight field
One rule of stone, one honest shield
The Court looks down at the thing it will bend
And the long night leans toward the end
Chorus
The last straight line
Hold it while you can
The last straight line
Before the curve begins
Verse 2
It does not beg. It does not shake.
It stands as it was made to stand.
We almost wish it would not fall.
We almost lower the hand.
Chorus
The last straight line
Hold it while you can
The last straight line
Before the curve begins
Outro
Then the curve. Then the dark.
Then the quiet.
